Kinesiology. Some kinesiologists move into other careers and become chiropractors, physical therapists, sport lawyers or occupational therapists. Kinesiologists work with people who have experienced an illness, have been born with a disability or have had an accident that limits their physical movement. Kinesiologists consult with patients based on current research and design policies related to rehabilitation, movement, ergonomics and occupational health and safety. At minimum, a thesis will require two semesters of additional research beyond KINS 4960R (KINS 4970R and 4980R). Some faculty may have additional requirements for students who wish to complete the thesis. LIMITATION on the number of TRANSFER COURSES used for KINES 300-Level Core: Abdomen 02 Two courses (6 credits) can be transferred into PSU and applied to graduation requirements for the KINES major. Alternatively, students may take the following courses to fulfill the General Biology and Human Anatomy requirement for the major. The kinesiology profession is based on the philosophy that anatomical movement is an academic discipline, an essential portion of the General Education process. Undergraduate students must complete 48 units of General Education as described in this Catalog, including 3 units of coursework meeting the Ethnic Studies (ES) graduation requirement.

University students looking to teach or coach at the middle or high school level must obtain teacher certification. To work as a kinesiologist, one must earn at least 4-year degree from a college or university. Certifications include those available from the American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). These courses provide transferable skills graduates may use in any profession requiring a college degree. Graduates with bachelor’s degrees in kinesiology have an advantage over job candidates with two-year associate degrees and are getting paid really well for their knowledge, skills and experience. Most kinesiology programs offer a focus in sports or training, giving you the skills you need to teach others how to take care of their bodies. Personal trainers work for gyms, sports complexes or as self-employed individuals to help individuals develop and achieve fitness goals. These individuals also deal with individuals who may be suffering from a physical disability or recovering from an injury or surgical procedure.

Many programs include an option for individuals wishing to teach. Health and Physical Education Teacher Certification: This concentration prepares you to teach health and physical education, as well as coach in a variety of settings. Human Movement Science: This concentration prepares you to meet the prerequisites needed to attend medical, dental, or other allied health graduate programs. Fitness Studies: This concentration focuses on health and human performance. The Pedagogy specialization prepares you for continued certification in teacher education, coaching, sport performance advising, and/or graduate school. An exercise science degree prepares you to work in physical activity programs of prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation in hospitals, industry, and communities. Exercise physiologists are also known as kinesiotherapists. If these warnings are ignored, disease can follow. Health wards off disease. In general, they develop exercise and fitness plans, programs and regimens that assist patients in the recovery from chronic debilitating conditions such as pulmonary disease or cardiovascular disease.
